Traveling back in time...Native American style!
We've been learning about Native Americans. We worked in groups to research different tribes from South Carolina and are putting together our presentations. Here are some pictures of us hard at work.

Playing Catch Up...
We're so sorry for not posting lately. The yearbook deadline is coming up and Mrs. Gaston has been super busy with it and hasn't had time to post our learnings. In today's post, we'll play catch up!
Ms. Cantrill has started a Lunch Buddies program that invites people from the community in to have lunch with us. Our first lunch was a huge success. Sherriff Alex Underwood and one of his officers Johnny Neal had lunch with us along with Mayor Wanda Stringfellow, Amber Stokes, and Ashley Polk. The children really enjoyed getting to talk with them at lunch.
In Science, we are studying weather. We've learned that a meteorologist studies the weather and that's what we are...miniature meteorologists! Here are some plictures of our weather studies.
We created puddles in pie pans and discussed evaporation. We observed our puddles over a couple of days to see what happened to them.
We learned that a wind vane is used to measure wind direction. We created wind vanes out of bottles, rocks, straws, and arrows and took them out to test them. We first had to use a compass to figure out which way was North, South, East, and West.
After we wrote about our observations we shared them with a partner before sharing out with the group.
Wind speed is measured using a Beaufort Scale. We created flags to help measure wind speed. We rated the speed as a 0 for no wind, 1 for some wind, and 2 for strong wind.

We've been working in Math groups and with partners for 30 minutes every morning to review skills we've learned this year. We've been review alot with triple digit addition with regrouping. As we work out our problems, we have to explain our strategy to a partner and then write it down.
Check back soon to see more of our learning. :)

Busy as Bees
We have been working super hard today!!! Here are some pictures of things we did today.
First of all, today is the 100th day of 2nd grade!!! Look at these cuties that dressed like they are 100 years old. Love it!

We had several students who brought in a 100th day project. We didn't get to everyones today so we'll post pictures of the rest of our projects tomorrow. Here are a few...
(Sorry...we've really got to figure out how to rotate our pictures on here.)
In writing, we're learning about how to make our writing more "juicy". :)
Today in Science, we learned about rain gauges. Did you know that meteorologists use rain gauges to measure the amount of rainfall? Since it wasn't raining today we made our own rain for our gauge. Then we used a ruler to measure the amount of rainfall we had.
When we finished our lesson, we went outside and put out a larger rain gauge. The next time it rains...we'll be ready! :)
We are soooo excited to finally be learning how to multiply. We have been begging Mrs. Gaston all year! We are learning that multiplication is really just repeated addition. We made arrays today with foam tiles.
Whew...it was a busy day! Check back soon for more updates on Mrs. G and Ms. C's superstars!!!
